The main ingredient in the talcum powder is talc. When rubbed on the skin, it has a feeling of softness.

Talc is a fine variety of soapstone.

  • International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) classifies the genital use of Talc-Based Body Powder as "Possibly Carcinogenic to Humans"(Based on limited evidence from human studies)

  • Various research agencies conducted studies on asbestos-free talc that exposed to lab animals (rats, mice, and hamsters). Some results showing tumor formation and others not finding any.(Results may not same in humans and lab animals)
  • It is clear that with or without asbestos cosmetic grade talcum powder is a carcinogen.

Hey from jimagain. I just always assumed that products containing talc were benign. This may explain rashes after a shower for me. Very informative. I like the way you presented this.

I did a little research on gelatins used as food products and was surprised to find the ingredient used was a food-grade cow hide and bone to make the jello effect in jello and candies like gummies.

Sorry for the long comments. I enjoyed your Hub!
